Christmas scents of childhood

sweet memories of Christmas as a child
the scent of orange and of golden coins
from deep within the stocking at the toe

the tree with needles sharp with smell of pine
was resting in a bucket filled with sand
and angel perched serenely at the top

logs burning in the fire with woody scent
and coal and embers with a fiery glow
and warm and smoky air would fill the room

the kitchen in the morning would exude
the smells of bacon sizzling in the pan
combined with scents of farm, damp clothes and cow

turkey roast, and stuffing, parsley sage
bread sauce ,homemade with onion speared with cloves
and Christmas pudding,marzipan and cake.
