Writing Resources from Fifteen Minutes of Fiction

The following is a piece of writing submitted by Invisible Joe on March 25, 2008

Poem From a Trashcan

Fuzzy green fingers unfurl over the top
of the shimmering silver can
like weeping willows atop a cliff.

The fingers wiggle and stretch, then tense
as the green grouch
pulls himself from his pit.

He is a volcano of avocado lava,
steaming from heat or stench
boiling from the bowels of the earth.

“Oscar, you inspire putrid poetry,” I say.
He retreats, but his receptacle reverberates,
“Leave me alone … and stay away from my cheese!”
