About

As is obvious by my carefully-constructed display name, my name is Laura. I'm a recent college graduate, now in full possession of an English degree. And no, I don't want to teach. Right now my career aspiration is to continue publishing works of fiction on as many blogs as possible until someone famous notices it and gives me a book deal. Well okay, that isn't likely to happen, but honestly, I write because I enjoy it, and I don't really plan on making creative writing my career. Right now I work in an office, filing and answering the phone, but I'm getting good work experience, and I like it.
Anyway... none of that is really all that important. What's most important is that I'm a Christian, and I believe that my life is in God's hands, so that's where I'd like to keep it. I want my writing to be able to stand out from a lot of what was produced in my writing classes, by holding to some form of hope and rejecting the cynicism and negativity that's so commonplace out there. I have a long way to go, but I'm hoping to have time to post here, and get more like-minded feedback :-)

Hi Laura! Doug and I have been doing some singing. He told me I have a nice voice, and I thought he was complimenting me, until I realized...No, he's actually complimenting himself. :P

Perhaps I will write a limerick now, since I'm logged in. :)

Laura -

I'm glad you enjoy them!

Yes, every story is taken from real life experiences I've had as an interpreter, with very little changed. That's why the names did have to change though - patient privacy.

I love my job and there really are so many great insights that come from it - those are some older stories since I haven't written in a while but I'm going to be putting up some new ones soon.

Beth :)

This is a test of the emergency broadcasting system. This is only a test. Had this been a real emergency, a great deal of weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth would have ensued.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled work day.

I'm not sure if this will help any but the song I was listening to on cmt when I wrote mine was 'the call'. I think I took more the idea of an example scene followed by chorus, then scene, then chorus than I did the melody. I can't remember who sang it though.

I wish I had some way to convey the music to you, I keep hearing it in my head but have no idea how to write it down.

Hey Laura,

Thanks so much for your kind comment on my writing. It means a great deal to me and made my week.

Your writing is quite impressive. I especially like "January" and "An Empty Room". Great word choice and visualization, with a touch of humor. I also love "Fibonacci Food". (BTW, I don't blame you for not wanting to teach English. It can be quite frustrating at times. Especially teaching middle school :)

Thanks again. Write on.

Steve

Have you tried typing “the sound of snow” into Google search? Your poem comes up near the top of the second page. I just thought it was interesting, considering how hard people work to get rated up in Google searches.

I actually haven't been to this site for quite some time. But I get email notifications when someone sends me a message. I put a couple up for your consideration. J.

Hi Laura...

I currently have on file 486 poems that I've written. Of that 486 there must be 4, maybe 5, that are worth posting :-)

Thanks for the message.

Jeff

I'm actually spending the summer in Scotland for study abroad. I will be in Scotland for another two and a half weeks. I don't want to leave, it's so nice here and I've been having a wonderful time.

Thanks. It was a bit of a challenge and of course it took more than 4 minutes - that was my cut & paste & re-read time.
