Writing Prompt

Mark didn't understand what she was talking about and Mark didn't care. Her voice sounded like that voice from the teacher in those Charlie Brown cartoons. Mark continued to nod his head as she kept talking trying to look like he was listening the the conversation.

"Are you listening?" Karen said.

"Oh... um yes uh what did you say again?" Mark asked dumbfounded.

"No you're not. You are not!" Karen let out a frustrated sigh and took a drink of her soda.

"I'm sorry. I just got a lot on my mind with work, let alone Christmas."

"What's going on Mark? You don't seem yourself at all today."

"Yeah, well I had to deal with my difficult boss again today. He has volun-told me to work on Christmas eve and Christmas. So it looks like my vacation this year is not going to happen. I'm not even going to be home to enjoy Christmas with my family!"

Karen's frustration turned to regret because she rebuked him for not listening the it turned to disappointment.

"I'm sorry. You should really get a different job. It is going to kill you."

"I wish it was that easy Karen but I can't. Especially now with the economy the way it is. I'm going to have to just buck up and do what he says. I dont have a choice in the matter anyways if I tell him no and he fires me then what? My family wont have a Christmas either! I don't want to have to live with that! I dont want to let my family down. Besides it may open a door for a chance to share the Gospel with him. I have been praying for my boss for over 4 years now. This could be the time."
