Writing Prompt: Simile
"My love is like a red, red rose..." (Burns)
"My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun..." (Shakespeare)
"Like a diamond in the sky..." (Jane Taylor)
Okay, so the last one might seem out of place, but what these statements have in common is that they're all similes that appear in famous poems or songs, the last one being especially well known to most children in the English-speaking world. Today, explore the use of similes in poetry -- perhaps write about something you love, or something you hate, or use various comparisons in one poem. Remember, a simile compares something (or someone) to something else, using the words "like" or "as."
